Books and More Books
I always think it's so interesting and wonderful to hear what books my friends are reading... so I thought I'd share with you what has been on my list these past few months. There have been some books I've read that aren't worth posting... these are my favs!
This is the book I'm reading right now. Glenn Packiam is an associate pastor at New Life Church in Colorado Springs, and he was one of the founding members of Desperation Band. He's spoken at several worship conferences that Tyler has attended in the past few months, and apparently he's wonderful! So is his book! I can hardly put it down. I highly recommend it! It's about trading church "rumors" for God... such as "God will give me what I want."... for truth.
I love Francine Rivers. She has to be my favorite author of Christian fiction! I read these books right after Aubrey was born when I was up late for feedings and then when we went on our long cross-country trip when Aubrey was 4 weeks old. They are truly wonderful!
Word of warning... Your husband might call this guy Fabio and make fun of you for reading this book the whole time you have it in your hands. Or at least that might have been my experience. I kept telling him that the book was so good and not about Fabio. Of course the cover does make it look like it might be a romance novel. IT'S NOT!
Of course you knew I was reading this one. I can not tell you what a treasure this book is! More than anything else, it helps you to feel that you aren't crazy and you aren't the only one who is insecure. It has helped me see the women around me in a different light. We are all insecure. If we aren't now, we were at some point. I've begun to see people as people with personalities. Amazing how that changes the way you see others. The simulcast is tomorrow and I can hardly wait!
THESE. ARE. AMAZING. Seriously. You may recognize the author. Anne Rice is the one who wrote "Interview With A Vampire." And several other books about vampires and witches. I recently read her autobiography/ testimony about how she came to know the Lord about 10 years ago and stopped writing books that were discouraging and even evil. So she did extensive research and wrote two books of fiction about the life of Christ. They are wonderful. Certainly just fiction, but they inspired a sense of wonder. They caused me to ponder my Jesus and what he was like as a child.
Jen Hatmaker is my new favorite Bible Study author! A group of ladies and I are currently doing the Road Trip Bible Study, but Modern Girls Guide is her first Bible Study in her series. I love the way she encourages the in depth study of scripture and writing in a journal! There is very little, "what do you think about that," and more, "what does the Lord say about that." If you are searching for something to do with ladies at your church, or if you want to learn how to study your Bible, these are wonderful tools!
What have you been reading!?!?
Go visit the library and check out a book!!
Have a wonderful weekend!
